“The little black dress is the true friend…she travels with you…is patient and constant…you go to her when you don’t know where else to go, and she is ALWAYS reliable and timeless.” ~Diane Von Furstenberg

Isn’t that the truth? Constant, reliable, and timeless…little black dresses are essential items in every woman’s wardrobe. They work year round, they can be dressed up or down, and they can be styled to fit different occasions, personal preferences, and lifestyles. Although I have four LBDs in my closet, this is the one I wear most often…probably because it’s my most casual. Today I’m showing two practical and fashionable ways to wear a little black dress, summer style. You probably already have similar items in your closet, so let’s get started!
Casual Daytime Look
You might have seen me in this dress before; I own it in three other colors, shown in this post. It’s definitely a favorite of mine for many reasons, including: the side ruching, tulip hemline, ease of care, comfort, and under $40 price point. This is a classic that keeps coming back year after year. I’m almost 5’10” so it hits me mid-thigh. If you’re shorter, it’ll fit longer.
Sneakers, a rattan purse, and a chambray top tied at the waist bring an effortless daytime vibe to this dress. Perfect for running errands, shopping, or a coffee date.

Minimal Chic Look
Adding a hat makes a confident style statement, don’t you think? This one by Janessa Leoné is new to my wardrobe. I love it because it’s a packable hat that rolls up to stow and keeps its shape when unrolled. With the commuting I do between my Colorado and Arizona homes and other travel (when we feel comfortable doing that again), you can be sure this will be in my bag.
Here I added my go-to neutral accessories along with gold jewelry and a denim jacket for a minimal, chic look. This outfit is perfect for patio lunch dates or happy hours.

Clearly, there are multiple ways to style a LBD. These are just two ways to wear them casually, practically, and fashionably for summer.

The LBD is a must in our wardrobe! Love the way you look in yours:) What I like best is that you can take this look from daytime to evening by just changing up a few accessories.
Thanks, Lucy! You’re so right about the day to night transition.

It makes me so happy that sneakers are in with casual LBDs. I hope that’s a trend that lasts forever!
I wholeheartedly agree!
