Have you added a jumpsuit to your wardrobe yet? I’ve had my eye on them for a few years, but this is the first one I’ve purchased since the 1980s. I loved jumpsuits back then, and I love them now! My off-the-shoulder jumpsuit is from a local boutique, Acey Design. In this post, I’m going to tell you 5 reasons to add a jumpsuit to your wardrobe this year. Here we go!
1. You can wear a jumpsuit anywhere, dressed up or down.
Jumpsuits are versatile, all-occasion outfits. You can wear a jumpsuit for work, daytime, weekend or evening wear. They’re also great for brunches, weddings, girl’s night out, summer parties, traveling, or even as a swimsuit coverup. I brought this jumpsuit on a recent cruise and styled it for daytime wear with sandals and a hat. Then I threw on heels and a belt for a chic, evening look. Definitely something to consider when packing for a trip and space is tight (See more cruise styles in What to Wear on a Cruise).
2. Jumpsuits work for all ages and body types.
You might be thinking, yeah right, but it’s really true! Just google your favorite celebrity’s name + “wearing a jumpsuit.” I’ve see recent pictures of Jane Fonda, Sharon Stone, Melissa McCarthy, Reese Witherspoon, Hellen Mirren, Halle Berry, and Oprah Winfrey all wearing jumpsuits. These women span five decades from their 40s to their 80s, have different heights and body types, and all look amazing in jumpsuits.
When it fits properly, a full-length jumpsuit can make you appear taller and slimmer. Whether you’re petite, have a fuller figure, or have a longer torso like me, it shouldn’t be hard to find one that fits your body type. These stores have a good inventory of jumpsuits:
Regular size jumpsuits here, here, and here | Full figure jumpsuits here and here | Petite jumpsuits here and here | Tall jumpsuits here and here (this one‘s cute, too.) BODEN has some of the prettiest ones I’ve seen.
For a recent date night, I wore this jumpsuit with my silver Chelsea28 chain wallet from Nordstrom (comes in 4 colors and is under $50), this oval chain belt (now $18), my Sam Edelman ankle strap heels (love these, too), and my favorite cat-eye Prada sunglasses.
3. Jumpsuits come in multiple style options.
Designers and retailers offer a wide variety of jumpsuit styles. You can find them full length or cropped, in denim, vintage, boho-style, tailored, shirtdress styles, boiler suits, overalls, safari style, strapless or with spaghetti straps, and more. There really is a jumpsuit style that suits everyone. If you have concerns about how you’re going to use the bathroom with a jumpsuit, look for one with elastic (like mine) or one with a front or side closure.
Loft has several cute jumpsuits and most are on sale for under $50 right now. These got my attention with the different necklines; they have several more in stock and on sale. I currently have my eye on this red/white gingham one from Anthropologie.
4. Jumpsuits are a quick and easy complete outfit.
Jumpsuits are a complete outfit in and of themselves. You can simply throw them on, go, and look great. No more spending too much time in your closet agonizing over what outfit to assemble or wear. Jumpsuits are also more elevated than jeans and a tee-shirt and more practical than a dress, but you get the same visual impression.
5. Jumpsuits aren’t going anywhere soon.
Jumpsuits have been back on the fashion scene for a couple of years now, and the fact that brands are making an array of styles and sizes is even better news for women over 40. With plenty of stylish and comfortable jumpsuit options to choose from, women have another easy and chic wardrobe item that will be around for quite some time.
There you have it. Those are my 5 reasons to add a jumpsuit to your wardrobe this year! In preparing this post, I noticed a lot of jumpsuits on sale right now. That makes six reasons! What are you waiting for? I bet you’ll love it, too!

Your jumpsuit is so cute! I always admire people who rock jumpsuits as stylishly as you. After kids, I need frequent bathroom breaks, haha! Jumpsuits aren’t the best for that!
Hope you are having a nice start to your week! It’s another busy one here!
The weekday wear linkup is live on my blog, I’d love you to join! 🙂
Away From The Blue
Hi Mica,
I sympathize with you on the bathroom breaks! This one doesn’t have zippers, so it’s quick and easy in the bathroom. I’ve seen others like it, too 😉
I’ll check out your link! Thanks for reading and commenting.
Lisa
Lmao! I’ll agree with you on this! Jumpsuits aren’t the greatest option when you always have to deal with bathroom breaks.
I may not be into jumpsuits right now, but I’m seriously considering getting one just to see what it’ll be like.

I would NEVER get one with a back closure for that reason…eek! You can find them with elastic (like this one) or with front or side closures that make it easy as can be.
Lisa 😉
I have been seeing them ALL over. I just bought a snakeskin one and wore it out in St. Louis. It’s easy like a dress which is why I love them.

Hi Lisa!
I love this jumpsuit on you, the print is wonderful and can be worn with any color jacket, accessories. I have about 2 jumpsuits in my closet, as because I am also tall, there is the wedgie factor, I need length. You are also tall, so it give me hope! This fits you beautifully!

Hi Jess,
Ah, yes…the wedgie factor. I can relate! That’s why I’m glad taller sizes are available. You’re right…I’m going to try this one with color next time. Thanks for your sweet comments.

I agree with you 100%! Jumpsuits are great pieces to own – so versatile and easy to wear. I love yours and I really love that red and white gingham one from Anthro – I think I need to stalk it like it’s my J-O-B and scoop it up when/if it goes on sale!
