How often have you been shopping for a specific item when something else caught your eye and you just couldn’t look away? That’s what happened to me recently when I went into All Saints to look at their leather jackets and saw this leopard-print slip dress with an off-the-shoulder, detachable cropped sweater. Once I tried it on, it had me! Do you know the feeling? There’s just something about leopard!

It’s been years since I’ve worn a slip dress. As a mid-50s woman, I like the idea of having a bit more coverage up top, not only for modesty, but also because I get cold easily. By layering with a cropped sweater, different styles of jackets, or even a shirt or scarf, you, too, can rock a slip dress in midlife or beyond! They aren’t just for gals 30 and younger! Take a look.

Perhaps the reason I’m so attracted to leopard print is because it is considered a neutral, and I’m very much drawn to neutrals. Also, leopard is an easy print to style because it mixes well with black, white, tans, bold colors, or it stands out on its own.

I love the elegance of midi-length dresses and how versatile this particular one is. It can be worn with or without the sweater, dressed up or down, or layered with other pieces.

I accessorized these looks with this faux leather jacket from Acey Design, (use code BLOOM20 for 20% off at Acey), these tall boots, my vintage Donald J. Pliner booties, a tassel handbag and my favorite go-to Prada sunglasses.

Although this leopard dress sold out almost immediately (not surprised!), I’ve linked several similar (splurge-worthy and affordable) slip dresses and midi skirts below along with cropped sweaters to recreate these looks.
