With the arrival of warm weather, it’s time to break out the shorts, right? Not so fast! After a certain age, many women don’t feel confident wearing shorts. We all know that spider veins, changing skin, extra weight, cellulite, and even winter-white legs are a reality! Even if you don’t give a hoot about those things, or if you have Tina Turner legs, wide-leg pants are a great option for staying cool and for having a more elevated look.
These lightweight floral pants from Nordstrom have a vivid hibiscus pattern, crinkled rayon, elastic waist, and wide, billowy legs. They’re as comfortable and soft as pajama pants, and I’ve already worn them three times this week!
Styling Ideas
Wide-leg pants are such a hot trend right now. They’re highly versatile and could easily be worn for casual days around town with sandals or sneakers. The ones I’m wearing could go with a boho style, or by adding heels and accessories, you could get a chic look for evening. You’ll definitely want to bring them on your next cruise or tropical vacation. In fact, you could even wear them as a swimsuit cover up.
I’m always so excited when I find cute pants long enough for my 5’10” frame! If you’re shorter, you could either wear them higher waisted or with platform sandals or both! I’m wearing a medium for reference. These similar wide-leg pants are from Loft come in multiple sizes including regular tall, petite, and XXS through XXL.
Ipanema T-Strap Sandals | Woven bucket bag (in 4 colors) | tie-neck sleeveless top (in 3 colors) | wicker hoop earrings (very lightweight)
When we enjoy restaurant patio dining, as we frequently do in downtown Scottsdale, I like to have a little more coverage because shorts tend to creep up when sitting, and I don’t want too much thigh showing or have chair marks on my legs when I get up. Know what I mean?
More lightweight, wide-leg pants (some are 40% off)
Can we talk about my purse from Anthropologie for a second? If you follow me on Instagram, you’ve probably seen me showing it. I love this bag because it is also versatile enough to wear dressed up or down, it’s just the right size, and I can wear it as a cross-body bag or a tote with the removable strap.

Dress options
The same hibiscus pattern also comes in two dress styles: a midi-length dress with tank straps and a maxi dress with a flounced front opening (use that cute dancing emoji when you post it on on Instagram).

Absolutely nailed it! I can’t wear shorts anymore. I have a super nasty varicose vein. I love your practical and fashionable suggestions and I’m on my way to buy some wide legged pants.
Thank you Lisa !

It’s so much more fun to wear these instead of shorts. Your picks are so cute!
I agree that they’re more fun, and I find them to be more comfortable, too!

Hi Lisa
Very pretty print, I love the colors in it and that you kept it simple with the black top. Very pretty! I wear shorts and linen pants in the summer, plenty of dresses. I just bought some wide leg cropped jeans I am waiting on. These look like a great alternative to keep cool, and look stylish!
